Dominik Lang: The Sleeping City

artist´s book series

The publication is published as part of the Dominik Lang exhibition The Sleeping City, held in the Pavilion of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic at the 54th International Art Exhibition – La biennale di Venezia in Italy 2011.

Dominik Lang’s (1980) project links two sculptural approaches, each with a radically different historical context, against the background of an intimate family relationship. By connecting works of father and son it creates basis for a fictitious inter-generation dialogue.

In his site-specific installation reacting to the classic architecture of the Czechoslovak pavilion he puts forth a hypothetical model of a never-realized exhibition: he handles the works of the generationally antecedent artist as a material for formative activity, torn out of its historical context, inset within new constellations.
