First Decade. A Survey of American Video (1968 – 1980)

The First Decade, a survey of American video from 1968 to 1980, will present over sixty landmark titles by fifty American artists and art groups in the last weekend in May within the framework of the Světozor cinema’s Audiovisual project, including Steina and Woody Vasulka, Nam June Paik, Dara Birnbaum, Richard Serra, Ant Farm, Dan Graham, William Wegmann, John Baldessari, Vito Acconci, Juan Downey, Robert Morriss, Lynda Benglis, Linda Montano, Martha Rosler, Dan Sandin, Eric Siegel, Paul McCarthy, Bruce Nauman, Peter Campus, Charlemagne Palestine, Terry Fox, Gary Hill and Bill Viola.

The program, which divides the first ten years of video into nine thematic blocks ranging from video performance and activist and community video to experiments with visual and sound, will be introduced by leading Czech critics and artists: Jiří evčík, Miloš Vojtěchovský, Martina Pachmanová, Tomáš Pospiszyl, Pavlína Míčová, Filip Cenek, Denisa Kera, David Kulhánek, Dušan Záhoranský and Vít Janeček.
