Biennale Matter of Art 2022: call for curators

Tranzit.cz announces an open call for the new members of the curatorial working group for the next edition of the Biennale Ve věci umění / Matter of Art (VVUMOA). The task of the group will be to develop a conception of the biennale edition for 2022 within the context of debates on “decolonisation”.

The theme of the planned biennale is a response to contemporary discussions on the decolonisation of museum collections in the USA and Europe, and its ambition is to develop these discussions within the specific Czech-Slovak and broader Eastern European context.

The newly formed curatorial collective should take up this theme, develop upon it, and in co-operation with the team of tranzit.cz prepare an exhibition project and publication for the second edition of the Biennale Matter of Art, which shall open in June 2022. Based on this call, three new members of the curatorial working group will be selected. Both individuals and teams can apply for the selection proceedings (teams can apply as a single subject/member or as pairs or threes of co-operating members, each of whom will be considered one individual member of the working group). Co-operation is conceived as a two-year project, and the work of each group member will be remunerated with the amount of 80 000 CZK (3 000 Euro) per annum. In the case of foreign residents, travel expenses will also be covered.

Tranzit.cz and VVUMOA subscribe to the code of feminist institutions, and for this reason we shall attempt to accommodate all those with child care obligations and other requirements, and create optimal working conditions for such individuals.

Those interested should send the following documents to the address info@matterof.art in Czech, Slovak or English language by January 10th 2021:

Professional CV (including contact details)
Proposal for conceptual framing of the biennale within the context of contemporary discussions on the decolonisation of cultural institutions, with respect to the specifics of Eastern Europe (max. 3 standard pages)

Members of the curatorial working group will be selected by a team composed of representatives of tranzit.cz – the organising institution of the Biennale Matter of Art.
