Kateryna Lysovenko (*1989) is one of Ukraine's most prolific young painters. Her unique style is influenced by Ukrainian naive art and socialist realism. It is deeply rooted in her understanding of painting traditions and techniques from her classical and contemporary art training in Odesa and Kyiv. Using a wide range of subjects, including Christian iconography and classical myths, Lysovenko paints delicate portraits thematizing loneliness. Lysovenko is a painter whose works explore themes of violence, art history, belonging and alienation. Focusing on Russian and Soviet imperial heritage, she explores the stories of museum artifacts that have been moved, looted or destroyed.
