Stories of the migration, cultural exchange and life of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic
The individual contributions will focus on the formation of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, the selected issues and stereotypes that the community faces, traditional and modern Vietnamese art and its presentation in the eyes of the social majority.
The event will also include a screening of the short film Mất Gốc with a commentary by the author, Việt Đức Dương.
Among the guest speakers are Phạm Hữu Uyển from the State Council for National Minorities, Mária Strašáková from the Faculty of Asian Studies of Prague Metropolitan University, Zdenka Klimtová, curator of the Oriental Art Collection of the National Gallery in Prague, and other experts dealing long-term with the culture of Indo-China or the issue of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic.
The discussion will be chaired by Ján Ičo of the Far Eastern Institute of Charles University Philosophical Faculty.

The seminar is convened in the context of the auxiliary programmes accompanying an exhibition by the American filmmaker of Vietnamese origin Trinh T. Minh-ha (tranzitdisplay, 28 November 2014 – 15 February 2015), which constitutes part of the long-term research project FORMER WEST (www.formerwest.org).
