This Prague exhibition brings together eleven video films and installations from different periods of Loulou Cherinet’s work. The version of the video The Truth of this Work, 2014 (La Verdad Sobre Esta Obra, 2010), was created in the tranzitdisplay gallery itself, and the video the Allegory of the Cock, 2006, has been dubbed into Czech with the generous support of eight distinctive male voices.

Loulou Cherinet lives and works in Stockholm and Addis Ababa. The life of these two worlds, with their ruptures and hybrid exchanges, form the starting point of her artistic interest. She operates on the basis of an anthropological observation of male and female rituals and the narrative of everyday life, using recordings and reconstructions of ordinary utterances and dialogues in which structures of power and otherness are manifest. Her narrative technique involves references to the history of documentary and avant-garde video and film. She moves from that which is obvious at first sight, via that which is implied, to that which is concealed.

Loulou Cherinet (1970) studied art at the Academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, Sweden, and at the University of Linkoping.
