Lecture-presentation of Renan Laru-An

The lecture-presentation "Betting on the strong" opens with the disjunctive presence of brightness—an index of becoming strong—in the ecology of 'strengths' and the economy of security.

Excised from the narratives of cultural development, the lecture attempts to open a proposition: historicizing the production of strength within the artistic and the critical. The iteration at transit.cz will focus on the notion of nutritive mechanism as a process shared by developmentalism and artistic production.


Renan Laru-An is a researcher, curator, and the founding director of Philippine-based DiscLab | Research and Criticism.

Ongoing and recent projects include "From Bandung to Berlin" (with Brigitta Isabella), "Lightning Studies: CTCCCs," and "Herding Islands, Rats, and the Anthropocene."

He completed psychology at the University of the Philippines-Diliman and is a member of SYNAPSE – The International Curators’ Network at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.
